Bus Fares Slashed Across All Categories In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: After a prolonged gap, Odisha government on Saturday slashed the bus fares under automatic mechanism following reduction in the diesel price.

While the bus fares have been deceased by 1 paisa in Ordinary and Express bus categories, a reduction of 2 paise has been effected in Deluxe and AC Deluxe categories.

“Due to decrease of diesel price from Rs 73.73 per litre on 06.01.2020 to Rs 71.02 per litre as on 01.02.2020, the fare for stage carriages other than town buses plying within the State shall be fixed at decrease rate,” said a notification issued by the office of the transport commissioner-cum-chairman, State Transport Authority (STA). As per the notification, the fare of Ordinary bus has reduced to 69 paise per kilometre from existing 70 paise per KM. Similarly, the Express bus fare has reduced to 72 paise per KM from 73 paise per KM.

The Deluxe buses will now charge 99 paise per KM as against Rs 1.01 paise per KM earlier. Moreover, the AC Deluxe bus fare has been reduced by 2 paise from Rs 1.23 per KM to Rs 1.21 per KM.

State-run oil marketing companies on Saturday lowered the retail prices of petrol and diesel for the third successive day across the country. With the new rate revision, petrol prices were cut by 5-8 paise a litre while the price of diesel was reduced by 5-6 across major metro cities of the country.

In November last year, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) had reduced AC bus fares slashed up to 38% and rationalised the fare structure for all buses. While the fare reduction was introduced on a trial basis from December 1 to January 31, the authorities later decided to continue with the reduced fare following increase in the ridership.
