Maharashtra: As many as five persons were injured after the bus ferrying migrants from Surat to Odisha’s Ganjam district overturned near Karanja on Nagpur-Amravati National Highway (NH) in Maharashtra on Sunday.
All the injured including two bus staff and three migrants have been admitted to the nearby Karanja hospital in Maharashtra, said sources.
The bus carrying around 50 Prabasi Odias had left Surat on Friday.
On the other hand, at least three passengers were injured after a bus ferrying people of Odisha from Surat met with an accident near Kalinga Ghat in Kandhamal district today. A rescue operation was subsequently launched by police and fire services department. This was for the second time that a bus ferrying Prabasi Odias met with an accident in the State.
Earlier on Saturday, a bus ferrying Odia workers from Surat met with an accident near Andharkote at Kalinga Ghat on Kandhamal-Ganjam border of the State. The mishap reportedly killed one person on the spot while another person injured during the accident succumbed at a hospital.
The bus carrying Odia passengers from Surat to Odisha amid the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown suffered the mishap after ramming into a roadside pillar. The vehicle narrowly escaped a major disaster as it stopped short of plunging into a 200 metre-deep valley on the other side.
Following the mishap, three fire fighting teams from Tikabali, Phiringia and G Udaygiri were mobilised with special rescue equipment for rescue operations.
Later, State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera informed that a probe would be ordered to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident.
“It seems that the mishap occurred because of reckless driving and lack of enough knowledge about driving in valley regions. Directives will be issued to drivers not to drive the buses bringing Odisha returnees beyond speed limit of 40 kmph,” said Behera.
