Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday seized 254 grams of brown sugar following a raid at Kalinga Nagar area under Khandagiri Police limits. The cost of the brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh.

As per reports, one drugs peddler, identified as Muna Sethi from Daspalla area of Nayagarh district has been arrested in connection with the seizure of the narcotics substance.

Police officials informed that a four-wheeler, one motorcycle and a country-made pistol has been recovered from the possession of the drugs peddler.

While talking to reporters, Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash today informed that the accused was staying at Kalinga Nagar area in the smart city for the past several months.

“As the seizure of brown sugar is of huge quantity, we will carry out a detailed probe to ascertained the source of procurement of the narcotics,” said Dash.

Dash further said preliminary investigation reveals that the accused Muna Sethi was part of an illegal drugs trade racket and we are trying to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the procurement and supply of brown sugar.

Earlier on October 31, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch had seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore during a raid near Baramunda bus stand area here in the capital city.

One accused, identified as SK Hasim Bux of Balasore district was arrested and brown sugar weighing 1.170 kg was seized from his possession.
