Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, the Excise department seized 70 gram brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh today and arrested 2 persons in connection with the case from Khandagiri area in Bhubaneswar.
One of the arrested persons has been identified as Tukuna Das, a sub-dealer from Khurda area. Das used to work as a waiter in a hotel and procure the contraband item from Jaleswar area.
"The drug is being supplied from Bhubaneswar. Everyone involved in the case will be nabbed soon," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Anup Sahoo, said.
Earlier, officials of the Excise department had seized brown sugar worth Rs 19 lakh from Salia sahi area of the city. In a similar raid last week, brown sugar worth Rs 7 lakh was seized.
In last two weeks, brown sugar worth more than Rs 50 lakh has been seized by the Commissionerate Police and Excise department in multiple raids.
