Bolangir: Bringing laurels for the State, a girl from Bongomunda of Odisha’s Bolangir district Sheetal Jain has been selected to pursue PhD in the prestigious University of Oxford in England.
Sheetal is one among the 54 aspirants from across the globe and the only student from India to get a seat in the University of Oxford.
“My father is my inspiration and he has always supported me in my studies. He is not strict but much disciplined. I thank my parents, guide and supervisor of my university who helped me achieve the feat,” said a delighted Sheetal.
Sheetal did her Bachelors in History from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College of University of Delhi (DU). She is currently pursuing her Masters and MPhil from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi.
“I started applying for University of Oxford in September last year and the result came in August. I had submitted my research paper, CV and reference from academic professionals,” said Sheetal.
“This is only one seat for Indians in the DPhil programme of the university and I am grateful that I bagged it,” added Sheetal.
“She used to study for around ten hours a day. Sheetal has made Bongamunda proud and I wish she completes her study well,” said Sheetal’s mother, Kantadevi Jain.
Sheetal’s father, Jayprakash Jain is delighted with her achievement. "She is an honest girl and I am confident, she will work for the development of Bongamunda as well as the country. Studying in Oxford University is like a dream come true for us.”
Sheetal says after completing her studies in Oxford, she will work for women empowerment. She even has expressed willingness to donate her salary for education of women.
