Puri: Police detained a youth for allegedly manhandling and attacking Kanas Tehsildar and additional Tehsildar of Puri district inside their office on Saturday.
The youth has been identified as Babuli Patra of Chandapada village in the district and is now being interrogated by cops.
Sources said, Babuli barged into the office and started attacking additional Tehsildar Sahadev Sahoo.
When other office-bearers including Tehsildar Sanjay Pratihari tried to stop the youth, the latter attacked the Tehsildar. Later, the office staff managed to get hold of the accused and handed him over to the Konark police.
However, the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
Earlier in November, Revenue Inspector (RI) Bishnu Charan Mohapatra, of Kanas block was also assaulted by a local while the former had gone for damage assessment of paddy crops by recent unseasonal rain at Haladiapada village in the block.
Meanwhile, such incidents of attack on government officials by villagers have now become a major concern for the law enforcing agencies.
