Bhubaneswar: A special Taskforce of Railway Police today recovered gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 5 lakh which was looted from a woman passenger at the Bhubaneswar Railway station on Friday.
As per sources, the woman travelling in Konark Express, arrived at the railway station from Visakhapatnam yesterday when one Rabi Nayak along with two other robbers, taking advantage of her being absent-minded, looted all her belongings including the gold ornaments and fled the spot.
The woman, who is reportedly getting married here on Sunday, lodged a complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP) following which a special task force of the RPF swung into action and managed to nab one of the accused. The other two robbers involved in the loot are absconding, sources added.
Her husband-to-be, Pratap said, "It was around 4:30 am when the robbers snatched her purse and fled. Though she ran after them, she could not get hold of the robbers. Immediately we reported the matter to police and action was taken. Today morning we received a call that the valuables have been recovered. We are very thankful to the RPF squad."
“The stolen ornaments have been recovered and returned to the woman passenger. One Rabi Nayak has been arrested while his two other associates are still at large. We are interrogating him and the other two robbers will be arrested soon," said a GRP personnel.
Thanking the RPF squad, the woman narrated the whole incident and said, "I was just about to reach the station when the robbers snatched my bag. I jumped off the train and followed them till the nearby slum. It was dark out there, so I stopped. We filed a report with the railway police and they immediately launched search operation. We are completely happy with what they have done."
