Jagatsingpur: Tension ran high near Jashobantpur Chhak on Ali Pingal road here after a woman was killed after being hit by a trailer on Friday morning.
According to sources, the accident took place while the woman was walking on the roadside along with her sister when a speeding trailer hit her from behind.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was critical when shifted to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Irate over the incident, the locals ransacked and later torched the trailer. Besides, they also staged a road blockade on Ali Pingal road demanding compensation to the family members of the victim.
Later, fire tenders were pressed into service to control the flames. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
