Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is expected to get about Rs 1,500 crore pending entry tax and interest thereon after a nine-judge bench of Supreme Court ordered the State is competent to levy entry tax while hearing the Vedanta entry tax case, said the State’s Finance Minister Pradip Amat today.
The division bench of the Supreme Court said under the Article 304 of the Constitution of India, the State can levy the Entry tax on scheduled goods brought/procured from outside the State which are not manufactured.

Notably, Vedanta Aluminium Ltd had filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the apex court in 2012 challenging the Odisha Entry Tax Act 1999.
The State Finance department said in a media release that in pursuance to interim orders of the apex court and the Orissa High Court some dealers have paid 50% entry tax while some others have paid one third of the Entry Tax.
