Kendrapara: Taking advantage of poor security measures, an undertrail prisoner managed to escape from Kendrapara sub jail on Saturday.
The accused Rangadhar Biswal, who was lodged in the jail in connection with a murder case in 2012, managed to escape after scaling the boundary wall of the sub jail.
"We have already informed district police about the incident and a case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused," said ADG Prisons, Binayanand Jha.
Sources said that several surveilance systems including CCTV cameras were not properly functioning in the sub jail.
Jha further informed that already an inquiry has started to review the existing security and other electronic surveillance gadgets installed at the prison.
"An an inquiry has started and all aspects will be taken into consideration and departmental action would be taken against those who will be found guilty," he added.
Meanwhile, the Choudwar Jail Superintendent suspended two warders – Nikunja Mohanty and Ramakanta Mohanty – for dereliction of duties following the UTP’s escape.
