Bhubaneswar: After one-and-half-month of the sensational dacoity in UCO Bank in the capital city, the Commissionerate Police today finally made a breakthrough with the arrest of two members of a dacoit gang from Bihar.
Briefing media persons here, police commissioner YB Khurania said the two dacoits were arrested from Begusarai and Vaishali districts of Bihar.
He said the Commissionerate Police has produced the two dacoits in the local courts in these two districts to bring them on transit remand. After they are brought here, further investigation would be made.
He further said three special teams of the Commissionerate Police are presently camping in different districts in Bihar.
Talking about the investigation into the case, Khurnia said “After getting information about one dacoit gang, police had prepared a list of similar dacoity cases in other areas of West Bengal Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh which have been shared it with the concerned districts of these states about the possibility of the incidents that occurred in those districts prior to the incident in Bhubaneswar which are likely to be detected to ascertain the complicity of this gang in these cases.”
Though he did not divulge the details, sources in the commissionerate police said two arrested dacoits were also doing business while their gang members used to commit dacoity by identifying themselves as CBI officers.

On September 28, the gang members arrived at the UCO Bank’s branch at Bapuji Nagar at about 9.30 AM. Later, they went inside the bank and took away the cash of about Rs 13 lakh and 70 packets of gold of nearly Rs 37 lakh. Before leaving the area, the dacoits also took away the hard disk of the CCTV installed inside the bank.
During investigation, police had come to know that modus operandi of the UCO Bank dacoity was akin to the two dacoity cases in Korba area of Chhattisgarh and Jharsuguda town in Odisha recently.
