Two criminals shot, arrested after encounter in Cuttack

Cuttack: In an early morning operation, Commissionerate Police on Sunday nabbed two criminals after an encounter near Kuakhai river under Sadar police limits.

The accused- Sudhakar Patra alias Lipu and Manoj Moharana alias Mangu have sustained bullet injuries and admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Both Lipu and Mangu were wanted in connection with the Pratapnagari firing incident in which three youths were injured during post Holi celebrations on March 4.

Acting on a tip-off about the two suspects movement in the area, a special squad team raided the spot at around 3 am today. However, sensing trouble Lipu and Mangu fired at the police team.

A senior official said that the criminals were injured after police opened fired at them.

Two pistols, 15 rounds of live bullets and 10 mobile phones have been seized from their possession.
