Phulbani: An eight-month-old girl child died while her twin brother was admitted to hospital in critical condition on Sunday after they were branded with hot iron sickle at Totasahi village under Baliguda in Kandhamal district.
The twin children of Naveen Digal had taken ill four days back. They suffered from loose motion. Though the couple admitted their children to the Barakhama health centre, the kids could not recover from loose motion. Later, a woman of the same village advised them to brand the children with hot iron sickle.
On Saturday afternoon, Naveen branded the children following which the twins fell asleep. On Sunday morning, the girl child was found dead. Being informed, a local ASHA worker rushed to the place and admitted the boy child to the Barakhama health centre in critical condition. He was later shifted to the Baliguda Sub-divisional Hospital.
