Bhubaneswar: In a major initiative, the Commissionerate Police today organised a ‘mela’ at the reserve police ground in Bhubaneswar to return stolen vehicles and mobile phones seized by it to actual owners. As many as 30 vehicles and three mobile phones were returned by the police today.
With the help of registration and chassis numbers of the vehicles, which were seized from robbers, the city police traced the actual owners and handed over the items at the ‘mela’. "From the IMEI number of mobile phones we identified three persons and gave the items back," YB Khurania, Police Commissioner said.
Details of seized vehicles and mobile phones will be displayed on the Commissionerate Police website and will also be available at all police stations in twin city, said DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
Sources said if actual owners are not traced within six months after the seizure, police will auction the items.
In 2017, the Commissionerate Police had seized a total of 200 stolen bikes and more than 500 mobile phones.
