Bonai: Kiriburu police and CRPF personnel in Jharkhand managed to avert a major rail mishap when they recovered a tiffin bomb from the rail track near Karampada, about 2 km from Topadihi under K Balang police station limits in Sundergarh district this morning.
Report said a goods train driver located the bomb from a distance and immediately informed the Government Railway Police (GRP). After receiving the information, a team of Kiriburu police and CRPF personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bomb planted under the rail track.
The bomb was later diffused by a special bomb disposal squad of the CRPF.
Talking to the media, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Bonai, Sishu Ranjan Mahapatra said the tiffin bomb recovered by CRPF personnel and Kiriburu police weighed around 35 kg.
“Since the area from where the tiffin bomb has been found belongs to Jharkhand, local police and CRPF personnel are conducting a s search operation to trace out any explosives that may have been planted on the rail tracks by the Maoists. As a precautionary measure, we have kept a strict vigil on the movement of the left wing ultras in our area,” he added.
In response to the two-day bandh call given by the Maoists in Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal, movement of trains from both the directions have been stopped.
Besides, CRPF and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel have intensified their joint search operation along the rail tracks in Bisra and Dareikala and other areas in Renjda and Topadihi in association with the local police.
