Tehsildar caught taking Rs 1L bribe in Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Vigilance sleuths arrested Kaptipada Tehsildar Sarat Chandra Mallick while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh today.

Sources said the Tehsildar was accepting the bribe from one Hemant Behera to facilitate illegal sand mining when officials of the anti-corruption wing caught him red-handed.

Mallick had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from Behera. When Behera expressed his inability to pay the amount, the former asked him to pay Rs 1 lakh.

Later, a trap was laid and the Tehsildar was caught red-handed while taking the bribe in his house. The officials are now interrogating Mallick at the Works Department office.
