Bhubaneswar: The swine flu toll in Odisha rose to eight with four persons succumbing to the disease on Friday.
A person undergoing treatment at VIMSAR Medical College and Hospital in Burla succumbed to swine flu on August 11. The deceased hailed from Burdel village in Bargarh district.
“We tried our best but unfortunately failed to save the person,” said VIMSAR Nodal Officer (Swine flu) Sudarsan Pothal.
Similarly, two persons died of swine flu during treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Friday.
“There were no medicine in the Capital city but we have the vaccine now. Doctors, nurse, attendants and other staff will be given the vaccine first; later, we will try to give it to all,” said Capital Hospital director Chitaranjan Das.
“People need to be aware of the virus and must take precautions to avoid it,” said Health Minister Pratap Jena.
Meanwhile, the virus has also spread to other parts of the State. A two-year-old girl and one 40-year-old woman were tested positive at Koraput District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), informed ADMO, Koraput.

So far, as many as 96 people have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus in the State.
Earlier, two doctors were tested positive for the virus. Swab samples of a doctor working at the Orthopaedic department in Capital Hospital and a junior doctor of SCB, Cuttack, were found positive for the vector-borne disease.
