Suicide bid: Two cases filed against AT chief

Bhubaneswar: Laxmisagar police on Tuesday filed two cases against Artha Tatwa (AT) chief Pradeep Sethy for attempting to commit suicide inside his cell in Jharpada jail on Saturday night.

The police action followed after the jail authorities lodged an FIR with the police in this regard on Monday.

Police sources said the cases have been registered under Sections 309 (attempt to suicide) and 186 (Obstructing a public servant in discharge of public function) of IPC.

Talking to media persons on Monday, Arun Kumar Ray, IG (Prisons) had said, “Sethy had made a suicide bid by inflicting injuries on his hand. However, as per the report of the jail superintendent, the injuries were minor."

Sources added the AT chief had threatened he would commit suicide.

Ray had said Sethy has been warned by the jail authorities not to repeat the act or risk being put in solitary confinement.
