Bargarh: With only a day away from the world famous Dhanu Jatra, artists from across the district have decorated the town painting its walls with various mythological themes as the town will convert into Mathura Nagari from tomorrow for 11 days.
Episodes of King Kansa's tyranny including scenes from his darbar, life in palace, his ride on elephant have been displayed through the pictures. These apart, pictures depicting local life style, great personalities, sages and cultural activities have also been painted.
"The beautification of Bargarh town has been done as visitors from across the world will gather here during the festival. It's our pleasure to contribute to the event," said Narendra Kathar, an artist.
Similarly, Ambapali which will transform as Gopapur has been decorated in similar fashion. "Walls of every house have been decorated with colourful painting depicting various activities of Lord Krishna and Balaram. Villagers have invited their relatives to witness the famous fair. All are waiting for the auspicious moment," said Satya Narayan Podha, a resident of Ambapali who is playing the role of Nanda Raja.
Prashant Behera, Bargarh Municipality chairman said, "One can well visualise the theme of Dhanu Jatra from the painting on the walls in every lane and by-lane of Bargarh. So, we are trying to display our art and culture through the paintings."
Considered as the largest open air theatre of the world, spread over five square kilometres, Bargarh turns into Mathura during the Jatra. Ambapali, situated across river Jeera, converts into Gopapur while river Jeera acts as Yamuna during the festival.
