Bhubaneswar: In a bid to keep harvest of this season safe, special relief commissioner (SRC) P.K. Mohapatra on December 29 sounded alert to district collectors of coastal, northern, southern regions of the state about possible rains due to a low pressure that formed over coastal parts of eastern Sri Lanka.

“Heavy rains are expected in coastal, northern and southern parts of the State from December 29 to January 1. The low pressure is likely to touch the southern coastal parts of the state on December 29,” Mohapatra told mediapersons.

Besides alerting the concerned collectors, the SRC advised farmers to store their harvest at safe places.

Co-operative and Food Supply departments were asked to remain prepared to face the situation that would arise after the low pressure hit the state and store the harvests at ‘mandis’ at safe places, Mohapatra added.
