Smoke emanates from AC coach in Samleshwari Express; Bogie changed

Sambalpur: Passengers at the Sambalpur railway station today averted a major fire tragedy after they spotted smoke emanating from the AC bogie of a train.

The train -Samleshwari Express on Rourkela-Jharsuguda route was stationed at Platform no 3 in the station, when people spotted the fire and alerted the railway officials. Fire tenders were pressed into service and the bogie was changed just in time. No casualties were reported.

"Soon after the news, the passengers started panicking.   Subsequently, the driver shut down the main power switch. However, passengers were not convinced. So, the coach was replaced with another one at Sambalpur Railway station," informed the station superintendent.

Earlier in February, a coal-laden goods train caught fire at Bamra Railway station in the same district.

Similarly, on January 17,  one person was injured in an explosion inside a coach of an army train at Puri Railway Station. The explosion was reported to be that of a cooking gas cylinder being transported in the coach.

In yet another case, on January 6, passengers of the Bhubaneswar-Junagarh Express had a close shave after the train caught fire at Mandata Road station in Andhra Pradesh. However, the fire was brought under control using fire extinguishers by the security staff.
