Berhampur/Konark: Slum dwellers of three Notified Area Councils (NACs) in Berhampur along with Konark NAC will get houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and land rights (Record of Rights or Patta) under the Odisha Land Rights to Slum Dwellers Act, 2017.

In the first phase, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will grant land rights to 769 slum dwellers of Konark NAC and give away work orders under PMAY at a special function in Chhatrapur on May 7.

"We will get the 'patta' on May 7. I am very happy and want to thank our Chief Minister," said Sarbeswar Sahoo, a beneficiary.

On the other hand, allegations have surfaced that many eligible beneficiaries have been left out. Moreover, residents of 10 Mouzas in Konark have alleged that they are unable to get the benefits under various government schemes, including miscellaneous certificates, home loans et al. as settlement process of land is pending since last 50 years.

"After getting the details of the land occupied by various people we have identified the beneficiaries. Out of these, free settlement of land records will be done as per government guidelines for people who are residing in less than 30 square metre land," said M.Srinivas, the executive officer of Konark NAC.

"We have been residing here since years. Poor people are being deprived of various welfare schemes. The announcement to provide 2 decimal land will not benefit these poor people," said president of Konark Bhu Suraksha committee, Sukant Mohanty.
