Puri: Cleanliness drive in the district under the Swachh Bharat Mission scheme has turned into farce after review reports by the district administration pointed out extensive irregularities in toilet construction projects under the flagship programme.
In a major shake-up after reviewing the progress of the projects in different blocks at the DRDA office here on Thursday, the district administration suspended six junior engineers (JE) of 11 blocks while eight other JEs have been denied salaries. The move came after allegations of irregularities in toilet construction works.
In several blocks of the district like Kakatpur, Astarang, Satyabadi, Brahmagiri, Nimapara and Kanas progress of the projects is tardy. There have also been allegations pointing towards misappropriation of scheme funds.
