Cuttack: The Fire Department on Thursday lodged an FIR at Badambadi police station here in connection with the fire mishap which occurred in the city-based garment showroom on Sunday.
"A case has been registered under various sections of IPC and investigation has been started," Badambadi police IIC Biranchi Narayan Pati said.
Four employees of the showroom including owner Rajeeb Goenka, area manager Manas Purohit, assistant managers Sanjay Dash and Manas Dash have been named in the complaint, he added.
The fire department alleged in the FIR that the mishap occurred due to gross negligence of the showroom owner and staff.
The FIR further stated that the showroom staff have provided false information to the investigating officials during enquiry even though it had no fire safety certificate. Moreover, no fire fighting equipment were installed in the building to avoid any eventuality, it added.
During the investigation, the fire officials had found that the showroom was ill-equipped to deal with any fire exigency.
A major fire had broken out in the garment showroom in crowded Badambadi area of the city on last Sunday. The intensity of blaze was so severe that the three storey showroom and shops adjacent to it were completely reduced to ashes. Around 21 fire tenders were pressed into action, which toiled hard for around five hours to douse the flames.
