Shots fired at BJP activist’s house in Bijepur

Bijepur: Gunshots were allegedly fired at a BJP activist’s residence in Pada village of Bijepur block in Bargarh district this evening.

Sources said three masked men arrived close to the BJP activist’s house and fired three gunshots at it.

Though the exact reason behind the firing could not be ascertained, the local police has reached the spot and begun probe.

The firing is the first case of violence in poll-bound Bijepur.

The Election Commission will review law and order situation in the area before declaring the bypoll date, sources said.

The Bijepur by-poll has been necessitated after the death of Congress sitting legislator Subal Sahu on August 22 and the Orissa HC gave its verdict on a petition filed by BJD leader Prasanna Acharya challenging the election of late Sahu on October 16.
