Bhubaneswar: With an aim to introduce better facilities for passengers and provide high quality, safe and customer-oriented services, the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on Friday took a new initiative to construct a shaded walkway and canopy for vehicular lanes in front of the Domestic Terminal Building (T-1) in Lane 2.
The project will come up at a cost of Rs 1.92 crore for the convenience of passengers in extreme weather conditions. The walkway will be extended to the car parking area.
“This will facilitate seamless movement of passengers form the terminal building to car parking area even during inclement weather conditions,” a BPIA release read.
The construction work, which will be carried out by a Bhubaneswar-based firm Dilip Construction Private Limited, has been scheduled to be completed within four months.
Earlier in October, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had conducted a tabletop exercise to examine airport emergency best practices at BPIA.

As many as 25 directors of different noted airports across the country participated in the two-day workshop here.
Security, emergency aircraft operations, anti-hijack, disaster preparedness and many other aspects involving airports were discussed during the workshop.
