Setback for BJD as suspended leader wins Nuapara ZP vice chairman seat

Nuapara: The BJD in the district received a jolt today after Bhanu Pratap Majhi, who was suspended from party recently, grabbed the post of zilla paishad chairperson with cross voting from BJD.

With the support from five Congress members, Majhi emerged victorious after one from the ruling party voted for him violating party whip.

A noted tribal leader, Bhanu Pratap along with the district president of BJD Prasanna Padhi, was suspended from the party last week for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

The suspension of Majhi had irked the Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangha, which had held a rally of about 2,000 tribals protesting the decision. The tribal body had decided to pose Bhanu Pratap for the post and assured him of victory with votes from five Congress and a BJD member.
