Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Jaga, one of the separated conjoined twins of Kandhamal district, has been taken off ventilator support at the AIIMS, New Delhi and is likely to be shifted to the general ward in the next three days, informed doctors today. However, Kalia is undergoing treatment at the ICU though doctors claimed that condition of both is stable.
Briefing mediapersons, Neurosurgery Department head Ashok Mohapatra said, "Jaga has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing normally, He is also responding to his mother."
Mohapatra said both the children have recovered as per expectations during the last three days following the separation surgery. Speaking on Kalia's condition, he said, 'Kalia is weaker than Jaga since he has epileptic fit. He is under medication. His body movement is comparatively less due to effect of medicines."
Kalia will also improve soon, Mohapatra added.
Earlier in the day, the mother of the twins was finally allowed to visit her sons at the premier hospital for the first time after their separation surgery. She thanked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and doctors for helping her sons get a new life.

Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena also visited AIIMS today to discuss the health condition of the twins with doctors. After meeting the doctors and the mother of the twins, Jena said the doctors at the hospital are making all efforts for speedy recovery of the two kids. CM Naveen Patnaik has assured to extend any further assistance if required by the hospital, he added.

The conjoined twins were separated after a marathon surgery that lasted around 11 hours at AIIMS on October 25. A special team comprising 20 surgeons, including four Odia doctors and 10 Anesthesiologists successfully conducted the separation surgery.
