Jajpur: Tension ran high in Kalinga Nagar of Jajpur district after a security guard deployed at a steel plant here allegedly thrashed over 30 students and two teachers of a residential school on Sunday.
The security guard in dock reportedly attacked the students of Gobarghati Residential School in Kalinga Nagar for pelting stones at him.
According to sources, the security personnel barged into the school and thrashed 33 students along with two teachers yesterday. The injured students were later admitted to hospital at Danagadi.
Irate over the incident, the school students along with locals staged a dharna in front of the main gate of the steel plant and blocked the Chandikhole-Duburi NH-200 on Monday.
The villagers have demanded immediate arrest of the accused security guard who is said to be a CISF jawan deployed at the plant.
Keeping in view the palpable tension in the area, police forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident in the area.
Despite several attempts, the plant authorities could not be contacted on the issue.
