New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today rejected a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Brahmagiri legislator Sanjay Das Burma seeking annulment of a poll irregularities case against him.
Following the rejection of the SLP, hearings on the poll irregularities case will continue at the Orissa High Court as usual.
Congress leader late Lulu Mohapatra, who was in a poll fray against Das Burma during the 2014 general election, had filed a petition two years ago in the High Court mentioning about involvement of Das Burma in the irregularities. But the Brahmagiri legislator moved the HC seeking quashing of the case.
In July 2015, the High Court rejected plea of Das Burma, the then Food and Civil Supplies Minister, prompting him to move the apex court seeking the annulment.
Today while hearing on the case, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court verdict, thereby allowing usual trial of the case in the HC.
As Lulu Mohapatra is no more, his brother is attending the court hearings on the case.
