‘Save Brahmani’ Dilip Ray writes to PM Narendra Modi

Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over barrage construction by Jharkhand, Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray has sought intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save Odisha’s Brahmani river.

In a letter to Modi, Ray has raised the issue of arbitrary construction of barrages and dams on the two tributaries of—Shankh  and South Koel will turn Brahmani river into a dry and dead river.

Apart from fuelling water crisis, it will spell disaster, adversely affect agriculture, industry and environment of Brahmani system.

“There is an urgent need of a water sharing agreement between Jharkhand and Odisha,” Ray wrote urging the Prime Minister to convene a meeting between Chief Ministers of both States.

In his letter, Ray has alleged that all the construction work for barrage and dams is being undertaken by Jharkhand violates the National Water Policy of 2012.

The BJP legislator has further urged Prime Minister to direct Jharkhand government to share details of all the ongoing and proposed hydel projects.
