Sarapanch beaten to death in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: In a barbaric incident, a sarpanch was brutally killed by some unidentified miscreants here on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, Chitrasen Das, sarapanch of Singiri panchayat, was beaten to death at 6 am today by some unknown persons while he was going to Aul on a bike.

When he realized that he was being followed by some persons, Das left his bike and started running but the miscreants caught hold of him and beat him mercilessly to death, reports added.

The reason behind the gruesome murder is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, local people are staging a road blockade near Aul medical college square demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Following the incident, irate locals staged road blockade by burning tyres at Aul Medical Chhak demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The locals also demanded transfer of Aul police station IIC claiming that the official is inefficient. Vehicular movement was disrupted along Cuttack-Chandabali route due to the roadblock.

The blockade was withdrawn after Kendrapara SP transferred the IIC, sources said.
