Bhubaneswar/ New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will shortly lay the foundation stone for the much awaited revival of defunct unit Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) at Talcher, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said after a review meeting in New Delhi.
Apart from Talcher, four other sick fertilizer units- Ramagundam (Telangana), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), and Sindri, and Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation’s Barauni unit in Bihar would also be revived.
Official sources said, Rs 8,000 crore would be spent towards the revival of Talcher Fertilizer plant and the work is expected to start after monsoon.
According to Pradhan, Rs 30,000 would be invested on the revival of four Fertiliser Plants at Talcher, Sindri, Barauni & Gorakhpur. Talcher plant will get its feedstock through the Gas obtained from advanced technology of Coal-Gasification.
Besides, the upcoming LNG Terminal at Dhamra Port in Odisha will be the supply point of LNG to three Fertiliser Plants at Sindri, Barauni & Gorakhpur and the revival plans are vital in attaining self sufficiency in fertilizer production in the country.
The Cumulative Investment in fertiliser plants, pipeline & LNG Terminal at Dhamra will be more than Rs. 50,000 Crores.
“Such a huge investment is rare in the history of Eastern India & will give major boost to economic activities and create thousands of jobs,” said the Union Minister in his tweet.
