Cuttack: Retired IPS officer and former Additional DG, Crime Branch, Prafulla Kumar Mishra passed away at a private hospital here last night following a cardiac arrest.
He was 70 and is survived by his wife, two sons, daughter, two daughter-in-laws and son-in-law.
Family sources said Mishra was suffering from lungs infection for over a year. He was admitted in a hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu. But he had to be shifted to a private hospital in Chennai last year for treatment. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital at about 11.30 PM yesterday.
Mishra had begun his career in the Odisha Police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 1970 and was soon promoted as a Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1980.
He retired as the Additional Director General (ADG), Crime Branch in 2006.
For his meritorious services, he was felicitated with the President’s Medal. Besides, he was also conferred with a number of State Police medals during his career.
