Panchakula/Bhubaneswar: When Panchkula of Haryana was burning post conviction of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the deputy commissioner of Panchkula, a woman, took charge and decided to bring the Army in to control the situation. Meet Gauri Parasher Joshi, an Odisha cadre IAS officer, who happens to be instrumental in handling the arson with calm and level-headedness.
Amidst unrest, though Joshi was left with a single PSO, she showed tremendous grit and determination in taking decision of seeking help of the Indian Army.
“I took the decision with a balanced mind and knew that the situation requires the help of the Army which can immediately restore law and order. I am expected to take such calls and will continue to perform my duty with responsibility,” she told OTV over phone.

Despite being injured in clash between the unruly mob of Dera supporters and police, she touched every nook and corner of the riot-hit city till the situation came under control.
A 2009 batch officer, Joshi is currently on deputation to Haryana. She had served in the Maoist-hit Kalahandi district in Odisha earlier.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Parasher Joshi for her courage and efficiency in a twitter message.
