Bhubaneswar: An International Centre for Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is scheduled to be inaugurated by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh at Arugul in the outskirts of the Capital city on April 1.

It was announced in a Press Meet organised by the Centre that Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patasani will grace the function with their presence.

It may be mentioned that our country is suffering a loss of Rs 23,000 crore annually due to FMD. Samples from all over the country will be collected in this research centre to find a cure of the disease, informed the Project Director of the institute, Brahmadeb Patnaik.

Talking to media persons Patnaik said, "It is the plan of Government of India and our target is that the disease will be controlled throughout the country, which means no new case will arise in entire country. Next focus is on eradication of the disease, which means the virus of the disease will not remain in our country. Our target is an enormous target.”
