Cuttack: A day after the video showing a youth beaten up by a group of students in Ravenshaw University here went viral, the mother of the victim today expressed reluctance to allow her son to study in the oldest educational institution after filing a complaint with the vice-chancellor.

“It is clear that Ravenshaw University is not at all safe for students now. Even the varsity authorities are not serious about the incident. I will not allow my son to study here further. I have trust on police who can book the accused soon,” she added.

Meanwhile, Malgodown police today arrested one plus III second year student for allegedly assaulting the victim inside Lalitgiri hostel premises. The arrest came after the victim student had lodged a complaint with the local police station on Monday.

The victim, an ex-student of Ravenshaw junior college had come to the varsity to check merit list for admission to geography department when a group of seniors forcibly dragged him to Lalitgiri hostel premises and heckled him.  The complete video of the youngster being beaten up and kicked went viral yesterday.

The victim later lodged a complaint with Malgodown police regarding the incident. He said they assaulted him over past enmity. The same group had also ragged him in hostel two years ago when he was studying in +2 and action was taken against them following a complaint, he said.

Senior officials of Commissionerate Police further informed that efforts are on to identify and nab other students involved in the incident.
