Rairakhol Jailer suspended for assaulting head warder

Rairakhol: Jailer of the Rairakhol Sub-Jail Joesph Barik was suspended by Additional Director General (Prisons) Arun Ray on Tuesday for allegedly manhandling jail head warder Sundar Mohan Jena.

On August 16, the jailer had allegedly thrashed Jena in front of jail inmates when the latter opposed jailer’s son Dipti from instructing labourers engaged in construction inside the jail.

Jena alleged that Dipti, who is not an employee of the jail, used to interfere in jail affairs on regular basis. On Wednesday, a verbal duel ensued when he suggested Dipti to refrain from such activities.

Irked, he dragged Jena into the jail with the support of his father Joseph and beat him black and blue.

Jena lodged a complaint at Rairakhol police station. On Friday, he along with the members of All-Odisha Jail Employees’ Association, Sambalpur Circle, met SP Sanjeev Arora following which the SP asked Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Rairakhol, to initiate a probe into the incident.
