Bhubaneswar: As Odisha continues to get soaked in Durga Puja festivities, the Met department's forecast of rain in the next few days is likely to play spoilsport. The meteorological department today predicted that the state will continue to receive rainfall in coastal and interior parts till October 2.
"The upper air cyclonic circulation over West-Central Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood coastal areas towards south of Odisha and North of Andhra persists and now extends up to 3.6 km above mean sea level. Another cyclonic circulation at North-East of Bay of Bengal is also brewing up and is presently effective 5.8 km above mean sea level. Due to these two low pressure systems several parts of Odisha will receive rainfall in the next 24 hours," Bhubaneswar Meteorological centre Director, Sarat Sahu said.
Citing that rainfall is likely to continue for next few days, Sahu said "Several places of the state experienced rainfall in the last 24 hours. Bhubaneswar recorded around 63 mm of rain by Thursday afternoon. The trend is going to continue till October 2 but rainfall could decline in the next two days in some areas and then increase after 30th October. The north east low pressure system might shift further towards northwest to Bihar leading to reduction of rainfall in the next two days," Sahu added.
Asked about Monsoon, Sahu said till now the amount of rain in the state has been normal with just a deficit of around 9 percent.
