Bhubaneswar: With a low pressure developing over the Bay of Bengal, Odisha is likely to receive rainfall due to its effect from November 12.
Talking to OTV, Director of Bhubaneswar meteorological office, Sarat Sahu said “Presently a low pressure system is forming around South-East Bay of Bengal extending upto 4.5 km above sea level in the atmosphere. Its movement has been traced towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. Later after November 15, it is likely to turn north-north east wards along the coast and due to its effect, rains could be experienced in Odisha,”
While initially the sky would remain overcast and light rains be witnessed at some places of the state, intensity of rainfall is likely to increase after November 15 till 18, he said.
The effect of low pressure might be more in coastal pockets and its nearby districts like Phulbani, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar and Southern pockets like Ganjam, Gajapati are also likely to witness rainfall.

On the other hand, likelihood of rainfall has posed serious threat to the current paddy season with crops almost ripe and ready to be harvested. The meteorological department has advised to take necessary steps to protect the standing and harvested crops.
