Koraput: In an unfortunate incident, one railway employee was killed and two others got critically injured after being run over by a light engine near Koraput Railway Station here Wednesday night.
According to sources, the incident occurred last night near the station when a few railway workers were on duty repairing the tracks. Suddenly, they were run over by a light engine following which Signal Technician BC Bhattacharya was killed on the spot.
Two other railway staff who got grievously injured in the accident were rushed to Koraput hospital for treatment.
Soon after the incident, railway department officials reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
"The body has been sent for post mortem. We are investigating the reasons behind the mishap," said an official.
In a similar incident, two members of a family, a woman and her granddaughter, were killed after being run over by a speeding train near Patia railway station in Bhubaneswar.
The incident occurred when the family of five from Hindol were crossing the railway line in Patia station and had plans to visit Puri. While three of the family had already crossed the lines, the woman and her granddaughter were still on the tracks when suddenly they were hit by the speeding train.
