Puri: Doctors working at the Puri District Headquarters hospital called off their cease work stir launched today for the time being after an assurance by Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi on round-the-clock security to them.
The doctors had resorted to cease work citing failure of the district administration to provide security to them after relatives of a patient, who died at the hospital last night, ransacked the hospital premises. The medicos alleged that such incidents of ransacking and attack on medicos at the hospital are rising day by day.
“The day a delegation of doctors met me, I had ordered deployment of an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and four constables in the hospital. As there is no permanent outpost in the premises of the hospital, we are deploying the forces on rotation basis. Today, I have ordered deployment of one more forces at the traffic aid post adjacent to the hospital 24X7. Besides, a dedicated ASI has been given charge of security at the hospital,” Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi said.
Commenting on the demand of the doctors, Sarangi stated, “They can ask the State government through a representation for creation of an outpost in the hospital premises.”
He also assured action against those who ransacked the hospital after identifying the persons from the CCTV footage.
Earlier in the day, a meeting under the chairmanship of Puri Additional Collector Uddhab Charna Majhi was held at the CDMO’s office. Additional SP and specialists of all the eleven departments of the hospital attended the meeting and discussed the security of the doctors.
Meanwhile, locals staged a demonstration in front of the main gate of the Puri hospital.
