Bhadrak: As a measure to maintain law and order, the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders under Sec 144 of CrPc in Bhadrak town ahead of Ram Navami celebrations.
“The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Bhadrak town from 6 PM today for an indefinite period to maintain law and order and harmony,” said Bhadrak Collector Gyana Ranjan Das.
He added further steps will be taken after assessment of the situation from time to time.
Last year in April, violent clashes erupted between two communities over a controversial online post on Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
People in large numbers had resorted to vandalism and had attacked police personnel alleging inaction. Besides, irate mob had torched several shops in the town.
The situation was so grim that the district administration had imposed curfew at regular intervals for 35 days.
