Prisoner attempts suicide in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A prisoner was rescued in a critical condition after he attempted suicide by slitting his throat at district jail here on Sunday.

Profusely bleeding Julia Pradhan has been admitted to district headquarters hospital by jail authorities. “His condition is stable now. He sustained critical cut injuries on the front side of his neck. Most likely he used blade to commit the crime,” doctor PK Nayak said.

Pradhan, a resident of Uparapada under Kanjipani police station, was lodged in jail after being awarded life imprisonment in a murder case that had taken place on November 16, 2009.

Sources said his mental condition was not stable for which he was being treated by jail doctors.

On Sunday evening, he took the drastic step inside his cell. Later, jail officials found him lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to hospital.
