Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the students’ union elections in Odisha, violence erupted in many colleges across the State with BJB College here announcing sine die while Brahmagiri college witnessed unruly scenes after bombs were hurled on campus.
Tension erupted in BJB College here after the college authorities declared sine die and cancelled students' union election. Staging demonstration against the decision of the college, students blocked road disrupting vehicular movement in the stretch of road in front of the college near Kalpana square area.
Earlier in the morning today, several hostel students were seen vacating hostels.
"On what reason did the principal announce sine die? There has been no violence in the college; everything was going smooth and in a peaceful manner, but out of nowhere the principal came in to announce sine die," said an aspiring student of BJB College.

"The principal has announced sine die on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Odisha as it was certain that the candidate of the ruling party would not have won the union polls here. The CM is trying all measures to stop elections in all those colleges where his party's candidates are lagging," alleged another student.

The students have dared the college authorities stating that they will not stop their agitation till sine die is withdrawn and cancellation of poll decision is revoked.
On the other hand, some miscreants hurled bombs on Alarnath vocational college while one live bomb was seized from the college campus.

Meanwhile, police have been deployed on the campus to avoid any untoward incident.
Similarly, two student groups clashed at Puri SCS College today. As per latest reports, police force are trying to control the situation.

Today is the date for filing nominations, from 9 AM to 12 noon, by the aspiring candidates. The last date of withdrawal of nomination is September 18, between 2 PM and 4 PM. After the withdrawal, the final list of contestants will be announced at 5 PM on the same day.
“Why I stand for?” meeting will be held on September 22, a day before the polling. The election results will be declared on September 23 following the oath ceremony on September 25.
