Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate police on Saturday said gangster brothers Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant have already been taken on remand in eight of the fourteen cases registered against the duo and it will seek their remand in the remaining six cases.

“We are in the process of gathering more evidence against them in these cases and very soon we will seek their remand,” Police Commissioner YB Khurania said.

The official further informed that police have reopened a case related to the mysterious disappearance of businessman Baidhar Sahoo as they suspect involvement of the siblings in it.

Sahoo, a Chauliaganj-based scrap dealer, went missing in 2005. Though his family had the lodged a complaint alleging that he had been kidnapped, police are yet to trace him.

"We have got some clues which suggest that we can detect the Baidhar murder case. After taking permision from the court, we have started investigation on the matter. We hope to crack the case," said Khurania adding that the statements of Sahoo’s brother and sister-in-law have been recorded in Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court.

Besides Sahoo, the Commissionerate police suspects involvement of the gangster siblings in the murder of Sagar Panda, a criminal. He was brutally killed in 2012 near his house at Kissanagar on the outskirts of Cuttack. His bullet-riddled body was recovered from near Budhianipata bridge on the Kishorenagar-Sompur Road.

Panda, who was working as a contractor, allegedly had links with several criminal gangs for last couple of years.
