Bhubaneswar: In a statement which could spell more trouble for the ruling BJD, the party’s Bhadrak MP Arjun Charan Sethi, on Monday, said the violence in trouble-torn Bhadrak spiralled as the police administration failed to control the riot on time.

Speaking to OTV over phone, Sethi said, “Had the police and district administration taken timely action, the situation would not have aggravated as it did. The Superintendent of Police (SP) is completely responsible for this.”

He questioned the role of police in permitting a rally in the town during the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC.

“I wonder how police allowed the rally in the town when Section 144 was in place? Besides it (police) should have not granted permission for the procession after peace committee talks failed,”  he said.

The parliamentarian pointed out that the rally fuelled the communal violence in the town.

“I have informed everything to the Chief Minister and he has assured me to discuss with me in detail,” Sethi added.
