Koraput: With the whole state on the boil over Kunduli incident, the brother of the victim today alleged that the police is trying to manipulate the entire case by concealing a note supposedly written by the victim before she committed suicide.
Speaking to OTV, the victim's brother said two police officials including the second officer of Pottangi police station came to their house and asked him to open the doors while family members had rushed the victim to the hospital on the day of the suicide. One of them picked up a written paper and hid it in his pocket saying that it is nothing. When I asked them to read the paper, they managed to slip away quietly, the victim's brother alleged.
Social activists have also questioned the motives of the police. "Why till now the suicide note has not been disclosed? We demand a thorough enquiry to trace the suicide note and send it for laboratory test to see if it was written the day the victim committed suicide," Sanjukta Panigrahy, a social activist said.
On the other hand a five-member team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) led by DSP Ravi Singh visited Musaguda village and interrogated the family members of the victim. Later the team visited Pottangi police station and Kunduli hospital where they held discussions with local police officials and hospital authorities.
The members of the rights body are slated to visit SLNM Medical College and Hospital in Koraput tomorrow where they will hold discussions with officials who examined, treated and counselled the victim. On Monday, the team held discussions with Koraput Additional Superintendent of Police, District Child Protection Officer and officials of Human Rights Protection Cell of Odisha Police at the circuit house.
Meanwhile, a three-member team of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes will be arriving in Odisha on February 11 to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry into the alleged gang rape and suicide incident.
The NHRC has asked the DG (Investigation) of the commission to submit a probe report within 15 days. Odisha government has also ordered a Crime Branch enquiry along with a judicial probe into the incident.
