Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government’s ambitious plans to impart quality education by introducing CBSE pattern for Plus II streams has hit road block from the first year itself.
With resentment brewing among students and educationists as the Plus II first year council examination could not be conducted as per the new pattern this year, Odisha Government has cited lack of infrastructure and shortage of teaching staff for such deviation.
Though syllabus for Plus II was upgraded, examinations could not be conducted in the first year.
The change in exam pattern was envisaged to ensure that students from Odisha fare better at National level entrance tests such as NEET, JEE main and other competitive exams for recruitments.
As the council exam was not conducted in the first year of Plus-II, many believe that the very purpose of such decision will fail as the students will not be able to grasp the basics in their respective streams.
“If no first year exam is conducted then students will develop a tendency to throw away their books. But council’s main job is to ensure that they are ready to conduct the examination,” said former CHSE chairman, Basudev Chhatoi.
Educationist Pritish Acharya on the other hand stated that, “If the government is unable to conduct the examination, now efforts should be taken to ensure that such examination is conducted at school level as CBSE is not conducting the same on its own.”
Earlier, the government had announced to conduct 50-mark examination for six subjects for all the three streams in Plus II. The students were supposed to appear the examination in OMR sheets.
School and Mass Education minister Badri Narayan Patra stated that discussions and efforts are on to conduct the council examination in the first year for Plus II.
