Bhubaneswar: The Council for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will hold a meeting of the examination committee on Tuesday to decide on alternate arrangements to ensure smooth evaluation of Plus II examination, which has been severely affected due to the ongoing agitation of the 488 category and 662 category non-government college teachers.
Basudeb Chhatoi, chairperson of CHSE, said, “Keeping the future of students in mind, we will take steps if the agitating teachers do not join the evaluation. The Examination Committee will meet at 10 am on Tuesday to find a solution.”
With the unrelenting agitating teachers of the 488 category and 662 category non-government colleges boycotting the evaluation of annual Plus II answer scripts, the first day of the evaluation was badly affected in many evaluation centres across the state.
CHSE authorities wrote a letter to Additional DGP Satyajit Mohanty requesting for action against the agitating teachers at the evaluation centres and preventing the teachers coming to join the evaluation.
In Bhubaneswar, some agitating lecturers prevented the lecturers at BJB College who had come to participate in the Plus II evaluation.
Pradeep Panigrahi, Higher Education Minister, said, “The teaching staff of 662 and 488 category colleges are also coming to join the paper evaluation. However, some anti-social groups are creating troubles. The government will be forced to take action against those who create disturbances.”
Meanwhile, a evaluation has not begun at many centres due to the opposition from the agitating teachers.
Pabitra Mahala, president of the 488 category college teachers’ association said, “We have decided to go on strike for an indefinite period till our demands are met. We are not afraid of the government threat to take action against us.”
Echoing similar views, Golakh Naik, president of the 662 category teachers’ association said, “If the government wants to sort out the issue, it should come up with a positive attitude and delay the evaluation for a few days. Instead, they are threatening to suspend us from job. The direction applies to those who have a job and job rules, but in our case this is not applicable.”
